A must visit place in South Korea

Every famous city has a Tower....KL we have KL Tower, Penang we have Komtar, Malacca we have Manara Tamingsari, Taiwan has Taipei 101 Tower, London has Big Ben...the list can go on and on.....

Hence Seoul has their very own Tower too, and it's call N Seoul Tower

So the best way to go there, it's to take a bus ride just like us!

After around 20 minutes ride from the city centre...and walaaa!

After we got there...we need to take slow walk up the hill...the walk wasn't that bad, cause the weather was kinda nice... =)

Just so you know, N Seoul Tower is "The Geographical Center of Seoul"

N Seoul Tower is a communication and observation tower located on Namsan Mountain, central Seoul, South Korea. Built in 1969, at a cost of approximately $2.5 million, and opened to the public in 1980, the tower has been a symbol of Seoul and measures 236.7 m (777 ft) in height (from the base) and tops out at 479.7 m (1,574 ft) above sea level. It has also been known as the Namsan Tower or Seoul Tower. After the tower's original owner merged with the CJ Corporation, it was renamed the N Seoul Tower (official name CJ Seoul Tower).

Many visitors ride the Namsan cable car up the mountain, and then walk to the tower. The tower features a gift shop and restaurants on the ground floor. Visitors may go up the tower for a fee. There are four observation decks (the 4th observation deck, which is the revolving restaurant, rotates at a rate of one revolution every 48 minutes), as well as gift shops and two restaurants. Most of the city of Seoul can be seen from the top. Close to N Seoul Tower is a second lattice transmission tower.

A must visit in South Korea

Walking here and there in Korea was kinda interesting I would say...Not in the sense where the road is uniquely different, it was just the fact that everything is in Korean language, it just simply seems that it is unique in a funny way...

hahaha i dont really get what I am talking there honestly XD

Anyways, peeps who is planning; going; in Korea, should pay a visit to Myeongdong for some shopping..

Myeongdong dates back to the Joseon Dynasty when it was called Myeongryebang (명례방, 明禮坊) and mostly a residential area. During the colonial era the name was changed to Myeongchijeong (명치정, 明治町) and became more of a commercial district, being influenced by the rising commerce in the neighboring Chungmuro area. It became the official district of Myeongdong in 1946, after independence.

After the Korean War and into the 1960s, the economy blossomed and the financial sector from Namdaemun-ro and Euljiro gradually expanded into Myeongdong. The area flourished as city renovations took place and highrise buildings were built. Many department stores, shopping centers, restaurants, upscale shops and boutiques set up their businesses in Myeongdong and it became the mecca for the young and trendy in the 1970s.

Besides being a major commercial and financial district, Myeongdong has been a popular location for political demonstrations and protests, especially during the turbulent years of the 1980s and 1990s. Myeongdong Cathedral has been a frequent spot for many of these demonstrations and still is to this day.

As of March 2000, Myeongdong's has been designated as a special Tourism Promotion Area and is one of the stops on the official Seoul City Bus tour's main route.

Myeongdong is one of Seoul’s main shopping districts featuring mid-to-high priced retail stores and international brand outlets, including Lacoste, Polo Ralph Lauren, Forever 21, Bulgari, Louis Vuitton and Nature Republic. It is a particularly popular area for young people and tourists as a center for fashion and sight-seeing.Several large shopping centers and department stores are in the district including Lotte Department Store, Shinsegae Department Store, Migliore, M Plaza, and Noon Square. The floating population of Myeongdong is estimated to be around 2 million a dayand in terms of floorspace rents, Myeongdong is one of the most expensive shopping districts in the world. Many hotels, restaurants, cinemas, theaters, and historical sites complete the diverse mixture of the area.

Seoul's financial hub is divided between here and Yeouido where the Korea Stock Exchange is located. Major insurance, securities, financial services companies, and investment firms with headquarters in Myeongdong include Citibank, SK Corporation, Kookmin Bank, Korea Exchange Bank, Lone Star Funds, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, AIG Korea Insurance, Hana Bank, and HSBC. The Bank of Korea is also in the vicinity.

Other notable landmarks in Myeongdong include the Chinese Embassy, YWCA headquarters, UNESCO Hall, Myeongdong Theater, and the oldest Catholic cathedral in Korea, Myeongdong Cathedral.

Except for early morning and late night delivery hours, the main street and most of the alleys are blocked off for pedestrians to roam freely without being hindered by traffic.

Take the subway, stop at Station 424, Myeong-dong on Line 4 of the Seoul Subway,

OR stop at Station 202, Euljiro 1-ga on Line 2.

So get an air-ticket and fly to Korea now!

Going to a place, it's not only about eating, seeing the people around there and shops...One of the most important thing when you travel to one country is to learn their culture.

Hence a visit to this place would definitely be something you would and must do when you're in Seoul, South Korea.

Anyways on the way to the Palace, we saw this interesting guy..

Gyeongbokgung Palace

Gyeongbokgung, also known as Gyeongbokgung Palace or Gyeongbok Palace, is a royal palace located in northern Seoul, South Korea. First constructed in 1394 and reconstructed in 1867, it was the main and largest palace of the Five Grand Palaces built by the Joseon Dynasty. The name of the palace, Gyeongbokgung, translates in English as "Palace of Shining Happiness."

Nearly destroyed by the Japanese government in the early 20th century, the walled palace complex is slowly being restored to its original form prior to destruction. As of 2009, roughly 40 percent of the original number of palace buildings still stand or are reconstructed.

Gyeongbokgung was originally constructed in 1394 by King Taejo, the first king and the founder of the Joseon Dynasty, and its name was conceived by an influential government minister named Jeong Dojeon. Afterwards, the palace was continuously expanded during the reign of King Taejong and King Sejong the Great, but was severely damaged by fire in 1553; its costly restoration, ordered by King Myeongjong, was completed in the following year. However, the majority of the palace was burnt to the ground during the Japanese invasions of Korea (1592–1598). The palace site was left in ruins for the next three centuries.

In 1867, during the regency of Daewongun, the palace buildings were reconstructed and formed a massive complex with 330 buildings and 5,792 rooms. Standing on 4,657,576 square feet (432,703 square meters) of land, Gyeongbokgung again became an iconic symbol for both the Korean nation and the Korean royal family. In 1895, after the assassination of Empress Myeongseong by Japanese agents, her husband, Emperor Gojong, left the palace; since then, the Imperial family never returned to Gyeongbokgung.

Starting from 1911, the Japanese government systemically demolished all but 10 buildings during the Japanese occupation of Korea and hosted numerous exhibitions in Gyeongbokgung. In 1926, the government constructed the massive Japanese General Government Building in front of the throne hall, Geunjeongjeon, in order to eradicate the symbol and heritage of the Joseon Dynasty.

Gwanghwamun Gate, the main and south gate of Gyeongbokgung, was relocated by the Japanese to the east of the palace, and its wooden structure was completely destroyed during the Korean War.

Gyeongbokgung's original 19th century palace buildings that survived both the Japanese occupation of Korea and the Korean War include Geunjeongjeon the Imperial Throne Hall (National Treasure No. 223), Hyangwonjeong Pavilion, Jagyeongjeon Hall, Jibokjae Hall, Sajeongjeon Hall, Sujeongjeon Hall, and Gyeonghoeru Pavilion (National Treasure No. 224). Modern archaeological surveys have brought 330 building foundations to light.

In 1989, the South Korean government started a 40-year initiative to rebuild the structures that were destroyed by the Japanese government during the period of Japanese occupation of Korea.

In 1995, the Japanese General Government Building, after many controversial debates about its fate, was demolished in order to reconstruct Heungnyemun Gate and its cloisters.

Today, the palace is open to the public and houses the National Folk Museum of Korea and the National Palace Museum of Korea. The National Museum of Korea, once previously located in the palace grounds, was relocated to Yongsan-gu in 2005.

By the end of 2009, it was estimated that approximately 40 percent of the structures that were standing before the Japanese occupation of Korea were restored or reconstructed. As a part of the phase 5 of the Gyeongbokgung restoration initiative, Gwanghwamun, the main gate to the palace, was restored to its original design. Another 20 year restoration project is planned by the South Korean government to restore Gyeongbokgung to its former status.

Shinsegae is a South Korean department store franchise, along with several other businesses, headquartering in Seoul, South Korea. The name of Shinsegae literally means "New World" in Korean. Its flagship store in Centum City, Busan, is the world's largest department store, surpassing the Macy's department store in New York City in 2009.

Shinsegae was originally part of Samsung Group, separated in the 1990s from the Samsung Group along with CJ Group (Food/Chemicals/Entertainment), Saehan Group (Electronic Media/Apparel/Textiles), and the Hansol Group (Paper/Telecom). It owns the brands Shinsegae and E-Mart, and is in direct competition with Lotte Shopping and Hyundai Department Store Group. Currently it is the largest retailer in South Korea.

Shinsegae is also famous for its long history. The main branch of Shinsegae is the oldest department store in Korea. The main building of the store was opened in 1930 as the Gyeongseong branch of Mitsukoshi, a Japanese department store franchise. The store was acquired in 1945 by the late founder of Samsung group, Lee Byung-chull, and renamed Donghwa Department Store. After the Korean War (1950–1953) began, it was used for several years as a post exchange by the American army. In 1963, the store was given the name Shinsegae. The old building is currently used as a luxury hall.

Since I'm already all the way there, of course I'm gonna check it out right?! =D

But for me, it's not about shopping...I actually went all the way up to Shinsegae's building and found their awesome building park...quite interesting i would say

Ten-Story Stone Pagoda of Wongaksa Temple Site, Seoul

Wongaksa Pagoda, one of the National Treasure in South Korea

Wongaksa Pagoda is a twelve metre high ten-storey marble pagoda in South Korea, once on the grounds of the Gyeongbokgung palace but now held at Seoul's Tapgol (Pagoda) Park (탑골 공원) in a protective glass case. The Korean name literally means "ten storeyed stone pagoda of Wongaksa Temple site."

The pagoda is considered by art historians to be one of the finest examples of Joseon dynasty pagoda art. It was originally on the grounds of the now-lost Wongaksa Temple and is the only surviving stone pagoda of the Joseon period. The pagoda was designated as the second national treasure of Korea on December 12, 1962. From an inscription on the upper part of the pagoda it is known that the pagoda was built in 1467, the thirteenth year of King Sejo's reign.

It is one of the few pagodas made from marble in Korea. Typical Korean pagodas are made from granite, a material abundant on the peninsula. The pedestal supporting the pagoda is three-tiered, and its shape seen from the top looks like a Chinese character, 亞. The first three storeys of the pagoda follow the shape of the base and the next seven storeys are shaped in form of squares. Dragons, lions, lotus flowers, phoenixes, Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and the Four Heavenly Kings carved on each storey of the pagoda. The pagoda, while made of stone, is carved to look like it was made from wood. The pagoda has brackets, pillars, and curved roof shapes that imitate a wooden pagoda design.

The pagoda is similar to the Gyeongcheonsa Pagoda, which was made during the Goryeo Era and is now housed at the National Museum of Korea.

The Han River is a major river in South Korea and the fourth longest river on the Korean peninsula after the Amnok, Duman, and Nakdong rivers. It is formed by the confluence of the Namhan River (South Han River), which originates in Mount Daedeok, and the Bukhan River (North Han River), which originates on the slopes of Mount Geumgang in North Korea. The River flows through Seoul and then merges with the Imjin River shortly before it flows into the Yellow Sea. The two major branches of the river, the Namhan River and the Bukhan River, come together at Yangsu-ri, Gyeonggi-do province, at which point it is referred to as the Han River. It then passes through Seoul and continues on to the Yellow Sea (or West Sea to Koreans). Broad tidal flats can be found at the mouth of the Han River, where it meets the sea along the Korean Demilitarized Zone that divides South and North Korea.

The total length of the Han River (to include its tributaries the Namhan and Bukhan Rivers) is approximately 514 kilometres (319 mi).

Although it is not a long river, the lower Han is remarkably broad for such a relatively short river. Within Seoul city limits, the river is more than 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) wide. Prior to the construction of a number of major dams, the river was known for its huge coefficient of river regime (ratio between the maximum and minimum amount of flow) of 1:390. (For comparison, The Thames and the Rhine have coefficients of 1:8 and 1:18, respectively.)

The Han River and its surrounding area played an important role in Korean history. The Three Kingdoms of Korea strove to take control of this land, where the river was used as a trade route to China (via the Yellow Sea). However, the river is no longer actively used for navigation, because its estuary is located at the borders of the two Koreas, barred for entrance by any civilian.

There have been fears, such as the 1986 Water Panic in South Korea, that North Korea could attack Seoul by releasing a flood from the upstream dam.

Along the banks of the river, especially in Seoul, pedestrian walkways and bicycle paths are available on both sides of the river. Various restaurants and cafes are located on these paths. While most bridges crossing the Han are for motor vehicles or subways only, citizens may cross select bridges on foot or by bicycle.

Hence a visit was made!

Without hesitation we decided to go for the RM 888++ package! 8 means wealth,

First dish was....

Buddha Jumping Over The Wall

What a name right? Well, it is a direct translation from the Cantonese's name....

This dish consist of quail eggs, bamboo shoots, scallops, sea cucumber, abalone, shark fin, chicken, Jinhua ham, pork tendon, ginseng, mushrooms, and taro....lots of ingredients right? lol

Mixed Vegetables with Noodles

Pretty simple dish...nicely done, the vegetables was crunchy though =)

Claypot Pork with bread

My favourite among all! haha...Although the pork was full with fats, as you can see a thick layer of fats, it's still awesome delicious....The pork was nicely done and tender..Flavour was perfect for me!

Grilled Fish with Vege

It seems like steamed fish right? but it's not....

Vegetables which I can't really remember the name.... =S sorry

Prawn with Oats

Initially I thought the pieces stuff around the the prawn must be one of the spices, but when I tried, it's actually oats...Somehow they coated the oats with a layer of something and fried together with the prawn which tastes awesome for me...

You must be wondering how does the name come about right? I was thinking, woah, such an unique name like really! But after some explanation by the boss (you might wanna know who is the boss as well later =P ) The name actually came about from a street name from Malacca itself.. They want to incorporate the whole idea of Malacca from Malacca itself to here...Hence they pick a street name from Malacca itself.

Check out the layout of the restaurant, really nice and unique...I love it!

Pai Tee (Top Hats)

This is sort of a snacks I would say. It's basically a snacks with a Pai Tee (biscuit based) together with a mixture of vegetables. It something light, healthy and delicious I would say. Crunchy on the outside, and healthy on the inside...

Chicken Meatball Soup

Hands down to the Chicken Meatball Soup! Really! why? Simply because I'm never a soup person, I never finish my bowl soup whenever I'm served on...not even at home, not even at any restaurant.... But this soup was good...the taste was there, and you wouldn't feel thirsty after drinking it...I mean most restaurant their soups is fulled with addictive, hence the thirstiness...but this nah, it was nice...really nice...

Nyonya Chicken Curry

It reminds me of my grandma's cooking! haha...Well, it's really different the Curry Chicken compared to the curry chicken you usually have it... You really feel that the coconut milk level is slightly higher, and of course the spices of herbs and ingredients of the curry paste is different...It's quite unique I would say....the aroma was strong definitely and the chicken was tender as well...Nicely done!

Chap Chye (Nyonya Mixed Stir-Fried Vegetables)

Pretty normal dish to me...It's dish where they mix together all sorts of vegetables...hence the name =)

Sek Kay (Nyonya Stewed Chicken)

When this dish was served, I was like, woah what is this! I'm even more hungry looking at it now! haha...
This is a dish consists of hard-boiled egg, chicken feet, some tau-kua and chicken meat...
Pretty special dish I would say...Most of it was cooked solely based on soya sauce, but with some other ingredients as well... A dish where you can't complain for more!

Sotong Masak Lemak Nenas

Ok, I got to say this is good... The lemak and the gravy is just plain awesome...the paste was really nice, the lemak level was just nice as well....and when you have the gravy, you will ask literally ask for more! You can even eat it with white rice together with the gravy only! IT IS THAT GOOD!

Ikan Goreng Chili (Talapia)

Something special to me...the fish was cooked till super duper crispy... The spices on top was pretty decent too...It's like as if eating a snacks of crispy snacks rather than eating some fish...good for kids who don't like fish! =D

Sambal Bendi

It is spicy and pretty decent dish....Can order it anytime of the day for nice vegetables dish for sure =)

I was never a brinjal's fan...never like and I thought I never will...But after this dish, I kinda like brinjal..Somehow maybe it's the paste that they used, it is pretty nice...something unique yet different for me...

Asam stingray was the boom la! the asam is super duper nice...dunno how to explain also..haha just try it when you're there!

Cucur Udang

A dish where the prawn was fried together with a layer coated flour which turned up to become Cucur Udang! haha

After all the heavy meal, I'm sure you want to order some desserts as well right...

Ice Kacang

Bubur Cha Cha

Sago Gula Melaka

Conclusion to all the desserts, they uses AUTHENTIC Gula Melaka...hence the desserts all are not too sweet but full with tastes instead! Perfect!

Getting Active to Help Save Animals

Recently, I volunteer myself to help out one of the charity project...Honestly speaking, I didn't know and did not see myself doing a charity..I mean I always have the intention of doing one, but there was never an action doing it....somehow when I heard about it, it just hit me, maybe I should do something to help out as well....

So walaa! I was the volunteer for the said event below, which is The Pet Project Malaysia 2012

It is pretty common where people refrain themselves to do charity work or going for charity because they think that they could not afford or so, so as well do not need to show out or do anything about it... Hence same goes to charity work for pets...people always have a negative thought about it.... But I think, as long as you have the intention to help, it is good enough for the cause...

The Pet Project Malaysia 2012

This event was held on 7th January, 2012 (11am to 11pm) at The British International School of Kuala Lumpur with the aims to raise funds and awareness through POSITIVE and PROACTIVE ways to create a platform for the public to learn more about the various animal welfare NGOs and the cause itself.

The Pet Project Malaysia 2012 is a 12-hour “Get Active” marathon comprised of dance, fitness and sports-based classes taught by internationally renowned presenters along with performances from Malaysia’s most promising young talents.

Aside from the Main Event (master classes and performances), participants could also visit sports carnival, playground, silent auction, rock climbing wall, rugby drills, a 2-hour workshop with Jojo Struys, self defense classes, animal welfare talks, football nutrition talks, face painting, Asia's largest football card montage, food & beverage stalls, sponsors & partners booths, merchandise booths and of course some NGO booths.

It was a total transparent event and all proceeds will be split to the smaller NGOs (such as Save a Stray, AnimalCare, Paws, H.O.P.E., SPCA Selangor, Independent Pet Rescuers, MDDB, KTAJ ( now known as SCRATCH) and Paws Mission) according to how many animals in their care and/or how much upgrading their facilities need.

This project aims to be the first of a long-term goal to secure funds for animal welfare… they were looking at making this a world-class, top-notch, yearly event.

Ever want to have your own personalised Calendar or even scrap book?

Ever want that? EVER WANT THAT?! haha

If you fear that if you want to own one, you might need to hire someone who is good in designing to help you out with this.

But fear not! With PhotoTalkz, you do not need this people anymore yo!

All you need to do is, download the software, PhotoTalkz and get started with it!

So select "Create a New Project"

Then pick a type of "project" you want....I opt for calendar yo!

So from there, it's pretty simple...just upload as many pictures as you file!

Pick the one with the caption "Add Files..." as seen as the picture below...you won't be able to upload any pictures if you select the other one beside it...

So just pick your pictures and click "Select" at the right bottom..

Once all the pictures is uploaded, it will simply give you summary of how you would be expecting and how you want your calendar or what not to be like...
