Super GT Round 3 Malaysia 2012 -  Day 1

 The biggest motorsport event of the year kicked off with a BIG BANG today with the SUPER GT Official Practices and Qualifiers! The weather was perfect: cloudy and warm, which was great for the fans, who came out by the droves, as well as for the drivers as well.

 Early at ten in the morning was the first Official Practice of SUPER GT, and it was a great chance for the fans to see their favourite cars and their favourite drivers in action! During the Official Practice, car No. 6 Eneos Sustina from GT500 claimed the best time, 1:55.693, even though it suffered from a high speed blow-out. In the GT300 class, car No. 66 triple a vantage GT3 claimed the fastest time of 2:05.341.

The teams took a short rest in the afternoon, and went straight to Qualifying. After battling it out for two hours, with innumerable lead changes, No. 18 WEIDER HSV-010, driven by Takashi Kogure and Carlo Van Dam, took pole position in the GT500 class with a quickest lap-time of 1:55.321. Coming in second place was No. 38 ZENT CERUMO SC430, driven by Yuji Tachikawa and Kohei Hirate, with a lap-time of 1:55.503, and in third place was No. 23 MOTUL AUTECH GT-R, driven by Satoshi Motoyama and Michael Krumm with a lap-time of 1:55.665.

In the GT300 class, No. 33 HANKOOK PORSCHE, driven by Masami Kageyama and Tomonobu Fujii, grabbed pole position with a lap-time of 2:04.262. Coming in second place was No. 87 JLOC LAMBORGHINI GT3, driven by Koji Yamanwashi and Hideki Yamauchi, with a lap-time of 2:05.371 and in third place was No. 911 ENDLESS TAWASAN 911, driven by Kyosuke Mineo and Naoki Yokomizo, with a lap-time of 2:05.395.

GT Asia Race 1 also took place in the afternoon, with a second race scheduled for the afternoon of the 10th. The winner of the GT Asia Race 1 is No. 33 Hisao SHIGETA, from Direction Racing, with a time of 40:26.581. In second place is No. 1 MOK Weng Sun, from Team Clearwater Racing, with a time of 40:33.410, while coming in third place is No. 9 LI Zhi Cong, from Asia Racing Team with a time of 40:33.793.

In line with the vision of creating the biggest motorsport event of the year, there were many exciting activities off-track as well! At The Mall, there is an 8,000 sq feet AFFIN Bank Motorshow which is filled with automotive exhibitors, who brought along their best and latest cars! Not only that, there is also an Akihabara Town which is an outdoor bazaar that is filled with discounted gadgets, lifestyle devises and the best cameras, be it compact or professional equipment! All day long on stage there are live performances, music, driver interviews, and Race Queen interviews!

The end of SUPER GT Day 1, and the fans just can’t get enough! There will definitely be more racing, more activities, more excitement and more fun to be had! Don’t miss out on the biggest motorsport event of the year!
